A Shark’s Growth

A Shark’s Growth
Outside of your comfort zone is where life is! Bob Harrison once came up with an excellent passage about the growth of a shark. He said - A shark in a fish tank will only grow 8 inches, but in an ocean, it can grow to 8 inches or more. The shark will never outgrow its environment.
What a pity! But it is all true. As a matter of fact, it is more than true; and it’s even quite unfortunate that the case is the same with some of us. While we may not be in a fish tank as the shark, we are actually in a tank-like situation, which is always the comfort zone we are not ready to move out from.

The Shark in the Tank

The shark in the tank will never outgrow its environment; it will never expand or grow more than that 8 inches of a tank. If you stay in this tank-like situation too, you won’t grow. The only way to grow is to get out and expand! Don’t stay in the tank, don’t lurk around small thinking people, change that group that’s not helping you, don’t just sit and do nothing. Move out! Change your environment and watch yourself grow.
It isn’t totally the shark’s fault but that of its environment. Its environment contributed to its inability to grow and to expand. This is why you must be mindful at all times of the environment you live in, of the friends or group you move with. Are you sure it’s not like that of a shark? Are you sure you’re not being held back?

Who Are Your Friends?

If you want to find out what kind of person someone is, meet the person’s friends. It goes with the saying, birds of a feather flock together. Chances are your friends, and your environment will influence your thoughts, attitude, behavior, and reaction. So, you have to decide this circle carefully.
I mince no words; if you want to be successful, you have to move out of that comfort zone of yours and expand. It’s the only way for you to grow. Break that barrier holding you back, and move out from the tank to a pond, from the pond to a river, and from the river to the ocean! Moving and taking it one step at a time!
So, go out there, increase your network. Find someone that has moved from tank to a river or the ocean and make them a mentor. They’ll help you in this transition, and you’ll surely learn a lot from them.
